The company has been at the forefront of significant technological and strategic advancements that continue to position it as a leader in the evolution of the future of aviation.
On June 5, a specially modified Pipistrel Taurus motor glider made the world’s first manned flight powered by solid-state batteries in Florida (United States)—a breakthrough that could transform electric aviation in the coming years.
The project was developed by Helios Horizon and piloted by Spanish aviator Miguel Iturmendi from Zephyrhills Airport. This innovative technology replaces traditional liquid electrolytes with solid materials, reducing weight, increasing energy capacity, and significantly improving safety by minimizing the risk of fire.
One of the most surprising aspects of this demonstration was the aircraft’s ability to regenerate energy during flight. While gliding, the propeller functions as a wind turbine that helps recharge the batteries, thereby optimizing the operation’s energy efficiency.
On the corporate front, Pipistrel continues to strengthen its position within Textron Aviation’s global structure. Following the final integration of the eAviation unit, the Slovenian company now operates directly alongside renowned industry brands such as Cessna and Beechcraft.
This consolidation will allow the company to leverage Textron Aviation’s extensive experience, manufacturing capabilities, sales network, and global support, driving the development and expansion of sustainable aviation programs led by Pipistrel.
The Panthera continues to make progress within this new business ecosystem; Textron Aviation confirmed that certification work is ongoing for the Pipistrel Panthera, the four-seat aircraft designed to offer high performance, efficiency, and advanced technology.
The program is progressing under the group’s rigorous certification standards and processes, bringing the Panthera ever closer to its official entry into the light business aviation market.
With these advances, Pipistrel demonstrates that sustainable innovation is no longer a vision of the future, but a reality that is transforming the way we conceive of modern aviation.

2. The Cessna Citation M2 Gen3 Successfully Completes Its First Flight
Textron Aviation continues to lead the way in business aviation innovation. The new Cessma Citation M2-Gen3 prototype successfully completed its first flight, marking a significant milestone in its certification process and bringing it ever closer to its planned entry into service in 2027.
During a flight lasting approximately 2.7 hours, test pilots Andrew Thorson and Tanner Towns evaluated the aircraft’s overall performance and the operation of its major systems. The flight reached a maximum altitude of 41,000 feet and a speed of 263 knots, demonstrating promising results for this new generation of light jets.
With this milestone, the aircraft begins a broader phase of flight testing that will advance the certification process with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“With this prototype now integrated into our flight test program, we are continuing a rigorous evaluation as we move steadily toward certification,” said Chris Hearn, senior vice president of engineering and programs at Textron Aviation.
The Citation M2 Gen 3 features significant technological and comfort enhancements for operators and passengers. Highlights include the integration of the advanced Garmin G3000 Prime avionics suite, a redesigned cabin with a premium design, ambient lighting, wireless charging for mobile devices, USB-A and USB-C ports, and an optional folding side seat that provides greater cargo versatility.
Designed for efficiency and performance, the M2 Gen 3 will seat up to eight passengers, have a maximum range of 1,550 nautical miles, a payload capacity of 1,510 pounds, and a baggage capacity of up to 725 pounds.
This development reaffirms Textron Aviation’s commitment to developing state-of-the-art aircraft focused on innovation, safety, and the customer experience.
“This milestone reflects our team’s dedication and expertise and underscores our commitment to designing, certifying, and delivering the best aircraft for our customers,” concluded Hearne.

3. The Cessna SkyCounier continues to expand its global presence and will be a highlight at Farnborough 2026
The Cessna SkyCourier continues to establish itself as one of the most versatile aircraft for special operations, military, and government use. From July 20 to 24, this aircraft, manufactured by Textron Aviation, will be one of the main attractions in the static display at the Farnborough International Airshow, one of the world’s most important aviation events.
The SkyCourier’s participation in this international setting reflects the growing interest among governments and organizations in an aircraft designed to operate in demanding environments, with low operating costs and a high degree of adaptability to different missions.
A recent example of this confidence is Belgium’s decision to acquire a fleet of five Cessna SkyCouriers to support its special operations forces, marking the first announced military purchase of this model.
“This acquisition demonstrates the strong interest in the SkyCourier and confirms its capabilities to carry out high-demand missions,” said Travis Tyler, president and CEO of Textron Aviation Defense.
The Cessna SkyCourier is a twin-engine, high-wing turboprop aircraft that combines outstanding cargo capacity, great operational flexibility, and excellent performance on remote airstrips or those with limited infrastructure. These features make it an ideal solution for defense missions, humanitarian aid, passenger transport, and medical evacuations. In addition, it can be equipped with specialized features such as underwing hardpoints for carrying mission equipment, external fuel, or additional cargo; an extended fuel system that increases its flight range; configurations for aeromedical transport and humanitarian missions; an in-flight operable door that provides greater operational versatility; and equipment for static-line parachuting operations; further expanding its ability to carry out demanding missions in diverse environments.
Currently, more than 1,700 Cessna and Beechcraft turboprop and business jet aircraft are in operation in Europe, including Citation, King Air, and Caravan models, demonstrating the trust that civilian, corporate, and government customers place in Textron Aviation’s solutions.

4. FAA Reminds Pilots of the Importance of Observing Speed Limits Below 10,000 Feet
Operational safety remains a priority for aviation authorities. For this reason, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued new recommendations for operators of Part 25-certified transport aircraft, strengthening the rules regarding speed limits at low altitudes.
Under current regulations, aircraft must not exceed 250 knots indicated airspeed (KIAS) when flying below 10,000 feet above sea level. However, the FAA clarified that there are exceptions for certain aircraft models whose design requires a minimum safe speed higher than that limit.
The update, published in document InFO 26010, stems from the introduction of new transport aircraft that need to maintain higher speeds during certain phases of flight, especially when operating in clean configuration—that is, with the landing gear, flaps, slats, and spoilers retracted to reduce aerodynamic drag.
In light of this situation, the FAA seeks to eliminate potential misinterpretations regarding compliance with the regulation. The agency reiterated that, when an aircraft requires a minimum safe speed exceeding 250 knots, operators must report this condition to air traffic control during both flight planning and execution.
As a coordination measure, the FAA recommends including the designation “Heavy” in the flight plan and clearly communicating the minimum required speed during the climb. This allows air traffic controllers to anticipate and properly manage the aircraft’s operational needs.
However, the agency emphasized that speed restrictions associated with instrument departure procedures and routes designed to avoid obstacles must be observed whenever possible. If the aircraft’s characteristics prevent compliance with these restrictions, pilots must coordinate in advance with air traffic control to request alternative procedures or radar vectors that ensure safe operation.
With this guidance, the FAA reaffirms its commitment to aviation safety by promoting better communication between operators and air traffic controllers to ensure that aircraft can operate within their performance parameters without compromising airspace safety.
